About this scholarship

Research Traineeships on Constitutional Doctrine

You will receive 1,260 EUR gross per month for 12 months. The Spanish Constitutional Court (Tribunal Constitucional) may extend this period by up to 6 further months, to a maximum of 18 months, provided that your training programme and the budget allow for this. You will work 30 hours per week, and the Court will cover your accident and health insurance. 6 of these places are awarded per cycle. You will learn to collect, classify and publish the Court’s constitutional case law, working under the supervision of the Chief Legal Adviser of the Constitutional Law Department. This is a training fellowship, not a post of employment: it does not constitute an employment relationship or a civil service appointment.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You hold a degree in law (Grado en Derecho) or an equivalent law degree from another country.
  • When you graduated: You completed your degree on 1 January 2020.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Languages: You do not need a language certificate to apply, but language skills are a key factor in the assessment process. A certified level of B2 or higher in English, French, Italian, German or Portuguese will earn you points, so a sound knowledge of at least one of these languages is definitely an advantage.
  • No parallel grant: You do not already hold another scholarship at the Constitutional Court.
  • Fit for the work: You do not suffer from any illness or disability that would prevent you from carrying out practical tasks, and you have never been dismissed from the civil service on disciplinary grounds. If you have a recognised disability of 33% or more, you are entitled to reasonable adjustments.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Constitutional Court’s online portal (sede electrónica) within one month of the vacancy being published in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE). For the 2026 cycle, the deadline was around 17 April. The selection process takes place in two stages. First, the selection committee assesses your academic record, your knowledge of public law, your experience with case law, your publications, your language skills and your letter of motivation. This is followed by an interview, which is conducted partly in the working language of your choice. The 6 candidates with the highest scores will be offered a place.
