University of Milan (Milan/Italy) - Scholarships for Students with disabilities

What you get

If you have a recognised disability, you will pay almost nothing for your studies at the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano). If you have a certified disability of 66% or more, or a disability recognised under Italian Law No. 104/1992, you are fully exempt from the regional tuition fee (approx. 140 EUR) and the main tuition fee (second instalment). You only pay the stamp duty of 16 EUR. Other students pay around 421 EUR per year, so this amounts to almost a full exemption. The exemption is renewed every academic year.

In addition, the following support services are available to you: extended examination time and an examination assistant during exams, private tutors, a transport and escort service, psychological counselling, and an IT room equipped with text-to-speech software, scanners and printers.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s, single-cycle or Master’s degree programme at the University of Milan. Doctoral students and postgraduate students with a disability of 66% or more are also eligible.
• Disability: To qualify for a full exemption, you must have a certified degree of disability of 66% or higher, or have a disability recognised under Italian Law No. 104/1992. If your degree of disability is below 66%, you may still apply for a partial exemption. A committee will decide on this on a case-by-case basis, taking your income into account (the university’s ISEE).
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Income: There is no income limit for full exemption from 66%.

How to apply

If you were granted an exemption last year, it will be automatically renewed. Otherwise, you must first enrol and pay the first instalment. You should then apply for the exemption online via your personal UNIMIA page between 1 and 31 October and upload your medical certificate. First-year students can apply for the exemption during the online enrolment process.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a rules-based exemption, not a competition. There is no set number of places and no panel to assess applicants. If you are enrolled at the University of Milan and can provide evidence of a certified disability of 66% or more (or recognition in accordance with Law 104/1992), you will be granted full exemption as soon as you submit the required documents by the deadline. Simply apply within the October application window and have your medical certificate to hand.
