About this scholarship
Ile-de-France mobility grant for doctoral students
You will receive up to 4,000 EUR to fund research trips abroad whilst you are studying for your PhD. The funding covers any stay outside mainland France and its overseas territories undertaken as part of your research: fieldwork, work placements, study visits, and international seminars or conferences. There is no minimum or maximum duration for a single trip. You may also spread the funding across several trips during your PhD, provided you remain within the three-year duration of your PhD programme. The funding body is the Île-de-France Regional Council, which launched this programme to support young researchers in the humanities and social sciences with travel related to their work.
Who can apply
- Level: You are in the 1 or 2 year of your PhD.
- Field of study: You carry out research in the humanities or social sciences.
- Where you study: You are enrolled at a research laboratory belonging to a doctoral school (‘école doctorale’, i.e. the institution running a doctoral programme) in the Île-de-France region around Paris.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Other funding: Priority is given to students who do not receive any other funding or mobility grant. You are not eligible to apply if you are already receiving regional research funding such as DIM or ‘Paris Region PhD’.
How to apply
First, your doctoral school will shortlist the projects it intends to fund and issue you with a certificate of eligibility. You will then submit your application yourself via the region’s online platform. The application deadline is 30 April.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is highly targeted: applications are open exclusively to doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences who are in the first two years of their doctoral studies and are enrolled at a doctoral school in the Paris region. As a result, the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you meet these criteria, have the support of your doctoral school and do not have any other source of funding, your prospects are good. It is advisable to apply early, as places are only allocated during limited time windows throughout the year.
