What the FSDIE Social Aid gives you

If you find yourself in financial difficulties whilst studying at University of Lille, you will receive practical help. This is not a fixed monthly payment. The support is tailored to your individual situation and may involve several measures at the same time. Depending on your needs, you may receive one or more financial grants during the year (either annually or as a one-off payment), access to an affordable on-campus grocery shop, help with food shopping, or a top-up to your Izly card to pay for meals in the canteens, help with settling outstanding rent in a CROUS student hall of residence, a free laptop loan for the year, and support with your internet connection. The fund is managed by the university. It is financed from tuition fees and university funds.

As part of a joint degree programme, your tuition fees may also be waived in full or in part. The standard fees in Lille are 178 EUR for a Bachelor’s degree programme, 254 EUR for a Master’s degree programme, 628 EUR for an engineering degree programme and 397 EUR for a PhD programme. An exemption will reduce or waive the amount you are required to pay, depending on your circumstances.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a student at the University of Lille.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: All nationalities, including students from the EU and from non-EU countries.
• Financial need: You are experiencing financial difficulties. A committee will assess each case individually, taking into account your personal and social circumstances.
• Fee waiver route: Exemption from tuition fees applies to students who do not yet receive financial support from the CROUS or the French government, to non-EU students enrolling on a Bachelor’s degree programme for the first time, to students repeating an academic year, and to asylum seekers or persons with refugee status, subsidiary protection status or temporary protection status.

How to apply

You can apply for social assistance via the university’s student intranet (ENT) using your student login details. There is a public online form for applying for a fee waiver. The deadline for applying for a fee waiver 2025-2026 is 31 October 2025 for students on the Licence, BUT, DEUST, Licence professionnelle, engineering programmes and Master’s programmes, and 16 January 2026 for PhD students. A committee will then review each individual case.

How realistic are your chances?

This is means-tested support available exclusively to students who are already enrolled at the University of Lille. Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking your personal circumstances into account, and is not compared with other applications. If, as a student in Lille, you can clearly demonstrate that you are in genuine financial hardship, your chances are good, and you may be able to combine several forms of financial support. If this option is suitable for you, please apply for the exemption within the applicable deadlines.
