About this scholarship

AUP Scholar Award

You will receive a discount of 75% of your tuition, which will be deducted directly from your fees, meaning you will never have to pay this portion of the bill. This amounts to approximately 1,740 euros. This is the highest means-tested grant available at the American University of Paris, exceeding the standard means-tested grants which cover up to 50%. It is renewed annually for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s degree, up to 36 months. To retain it, you must remain enrolled as a full-time student and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (a GPA on the US system on a scale of 4.0). In return, you’ll get involved in the university community, for example as a student ambassador, by taking part in events or blogging about student life.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are studying at the American University of Paris, an English-speaking university in Paris, France.
  • Study level: You are a newly enrolled student in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree programme. Visiting students and students taking part in the ‘First Year Abroad’ programme are not eligible for this award.
  • Timing: You must submit the application if you are applying for a place at university for the first time. If you are already enrolled and did not receive the grant at the start of your studies, you will not be able to apply for it at a later date.
  • Financial need: You can prove that you need financial support to fund your studies.
  • Grades: You’re doing very well at school.
  • Profile: You have a cosmopolitan outlook, are interested in languages and are actively involved in your community outside of class.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.

How to apply

When completing your application for admission, please answer ‘Yes’ to the question about financial support. Once you have submitted your application, you will be directed to a status page where you can complete a separate online application for financial support and upload your supporting documents. US citizens and those with permanent residence status must also submit the FAFSA application (the form for federal student aid in the US). Anyone who submits an application for financial support will automatically be considered for the ‘Scholar Award’. Please complete the application before the start of the semester.

How realistic are your chances?

This is the university’s highest needs-based scholarship, so competition for this place is fiercer than for the smaller scholarships. You will need very good grades, a demonstrable financial need and a genuinely international profile. Only first-year undergraduates are eligible, which keeps the pool of applicants small. If you meet all these requirements and apply early with a complete application, you stand a good chance of success; however, a convincing, well-documented application profile is crucial.
