About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a scholarship of approximately 170 EUR per person per week (6,000 NT$) to cover the course fees for an intensive Mandarin course in Taiwan. The course takes place in the summer and lasts for a period of 2 to 4 weeks. You will have 3 lessons per day on 5 days a week (Mondays to Fridays) at a language centre recognised by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education. In addition to your lessons, you will also have the opportunity to explore Taiwan. The grant will be paid directly to the host school. If the course fees exceed the grant amount, you will have to pay the difference yourself. Travel, accommodation and other costs are also at your own expense. Funding is provided by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education via its educational service in Paris.
Who can apply
- You apply as a group: The grant is aimed at groups, not individuals. As a rule, a minimum of 15 people are required, including up to 2 accompanying teachers. Groups with at least 5 pupils will also be considered, and the education service will endeavour to combine these into a group of 15.
- Same school: All group members must belong to the same institution as the accompanying teachers.
- Same course: All participants in the group must be present at the same centre on the same dates.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are not a French national, you must meet the visa requirements applicable to you.
How to apply
The accompanying teacher is the group’s point of contact and must submit the application via the Education Section of the Taipei Representative Office in Paris. Please contact the Education Section at least 4 months before the group’s departure. Please enclose a certificate confirming that all participants are pupils at the teacher’s school. There is no fixed annual application deadline; please therefore enquire directly with the Education Section.
How realistic are your chances?
As this is a group grant linked to a specific summer course, your chances of success depend less on individual merit and more on whether you can put together an eligible group from a school. If you can bring together at least 5 to 15 pupils under the supervision of a teacher and submit the application the required 4 months in advance, a well-organised group stands a very good chance. Late or incomplete group applications are the main reason why applications are rejected.
