SFP travel fellowship for congresses

In this context, a grant refers to a travel allowance to enable you to attend an academic conference and present your research. You will receive 400 EUR for travel within France, 600 EUR for travel within Europe or the Maghreb, and 1,000 EUR for intercontinental travel. Throughout your PhD programme, you may receive a maximum total of 1,000 EUR. For example, you could combine a 400 EUR grant with a 600 EUR grant. You may receive these funds in addition to other funding, and applications to attend summer schools will also be considered. The grant is provided by the Société Française de Phytopathologie (French Society for Plant Pathology), which supports young researchers in participating in scientific life.

Who can apply

• Level: You are enrolled on a PhD programme in plant pathology (the study of plant diseases) or you defended your PhD thesis less than a year ago.
• Field: Your dissertation focuses on plant pathology.
• SFP membership: You are an SFP member and had paid your membership fee at the time of your application.
• Your supervisor: Your supervisor is also a member of the SFP, has paid their membership fee and has been a member for at least 2 years.
• What you do there: You are presenting a poster or giving a talk, and there is at least one session on phytopathology at the conference.
• Which congress: All national or international conferences, with the exception of events organised or funded by the SFP itself.
• Nationality: All nationalities welcome.

How to apply

Please send your application by email as a single PDF file, using the SFP application form, to the scholarship coordinator. There are two application rounds per year. Applications must be submitted by 30 April for conferences starting between 1 June and 30 November, or by 31 October for conferences starting between 1 December and 31 May. The SFP Executive Committee reviews each application and makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: you must be a PhD student in plant pathology, both you and your supervisor must be members of the SFP, and you must give a presentation at the conference. If you meet these criteria, your chances are good. Priority is given to students who are in the final stages of their PhD. The annual budget is fixed and will not be increased, so it is advisable to apply early in the application round.
