Rosa Morison Prize

A one-off prize of about 35 EUR (£30) is awarded for outstanding academic achievement at University College London (UCL). This is an academic honour and not a regular monthly scholarship. It is awarded by the Department of French within UCL’s School of European Languages, Culture & Society. The same name is also used for a faculty medal awarded by UCL’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which departments such as Philosophy present to their top undergraduate students.

Who can apply

• University: You are an undergraduate student at UCL.
• Subject: You are studying in the Department of French. Other humanities subjects, such as philosophy, are also taken into account when awarding the Faculty Medal.
• Year of study: To be eligible for the French prize, you must be in your first or second year of study.
• Results: Your academic performance has been graded ‘good’ (Honours), which clearly indicates very good marks.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

There is no application process. The Department of French awards the prize internally. For the Faculty Medal, your department will nominate you on the basis of your academic achievements.

How realistic are your chances?

You cannot apply for this prize, so your grades are your only chance. It is awarded to the highest-achieving students who are already enrolled at UCL. If your academic performance meets the ‘Good Honours’ standard, you’re in the running. However, as the number of awards varies each year depending on the size of the department, places are limited. Think of it as recognition for outstanding achievement rather than something you absolutely must aim for.
