About this grant / loan

What the family discount gives you

At the University of Genoa, you will be eligible for a 30% reduction on the third instalment of your tuition fee. You are entitled to this if two or more members of the same family are enrolled at the university in the same year. The discount applies for the standard duration of your studies, provided that you and your family members continue to meet the eligibility criteria. It does not affect the regional tax (tassa regionale) or stamp duty (imposta di bollo), which you must continue to pay in full.

Who can apply

  • Family members enrolled together: At least two students from the same family (spouses, parents, children or partners in a civil partnership or a registered cohabitation arrangement) are enrolled at the University of Genoa in the same academic year.
  • Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Genoa, on a bachelor's, master's, single-cycle master's, individual course, or university master's programme.
  • On track with your studies: You are within the standard duration of your degree programme and are not ‘fuori corso’ (behind schedule). If only some family members are on schedule, only they will receive the discount.
  • Full-time only: Part-time students are not eligible for this discount.
  • Income declaration: Your family status is verified on the basis of the ISEE-U, the standard Italian measure of household income and assets for the purposes of university benefits. You are required to declare this yourself.
  • Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

The discount is not granted automatically. Each eligible family member must submit the self-declaration form, together with their ISEE-U details, via the University of Genoa’s online student services every year. The deadline is 28 February.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested scholarship, but a reduction in fees. Provided your family circumstances and enrolment status meet the requirements, you will receive this reduction; there is therefore no selection process. The biggest risk is missing the annual application form, as you must resubmit it every year and anyone who forgets to do so will not receive the reduction. Please ensure that every eligible family member submits the necessary documents by the deadline and completes their degree within the standard period of study.
