ESU - Verona - Extraordinary subsidies

What you get

You will receive a one-off emergency payment if a sudden, serious financial problem puts your studies at risk. It helps you to get through a financial crisis. It is paid out by ESU Verona, the public body responsible for the right to education in Verona. You may only apply for this grant once per academic term. The amount is determined each year in the annual call for applications and is not announced in advance. As the total amount is limited, these are one-off grants rather than a monthly scholarship.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Verona, the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona or the Verona Conservatoire of Music.
• Financial need: You are facing serious financial or family difficulties that make it hard for you to continue your studies. You can prove this by providing an ISEE certificate, the official Italian indicator of your household’s financial situation.
• Grades: You can still apply even if your grades were not high enough to qualify for the standard ESU scholarship. This grant is aimed at students in genuine financial hardship who have not met the academic requirements.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying in Verona.
• Once only: You have not yet received this grant during your current stage of study and are not currently receiving the standard regional ESU grant at the same time.

How to apply

Applications are made online via the ESU Verona ‘Sportello Unico’ portal. You log in using SPID, the Italian digital identity system. A new call for applications is published at the start of each academic year. You will receive a reply within 30 days of submitting your application.

How realistic are your chances?

This is emergency financial assistance for a very specific situation: you must be studying in Verona and be able to provide evidence of a serious, verified financial hardship. This significantly restricts the pool of applicants, and unlike the regular scholarship, poor grades do not lead to exclusion. As the total funding available is limited, clear and well-documented evidence of genuine financial need is crucial. Apply as soon as the annual call for applications opens.
