ESSB Study Mobility Grant

You receive a one-off 500 EUR to help fund a study exchange outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA is the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, so this grant is for exchanges further afield. It is a flat lump sum, not a monthly payment. It comes from the Dean of the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Who can apply

• Your school: You are a full-time Bachelor's student at the ESSB.
• Where you go: Your exchange is to a country outside the EEA (Turkey does not count), and it lasts at least 3 months.
• Timing: The exchange takes place in the first semester of your third year and counts towards your diploma.
• Progress so far: You have passed your first year. It is strongly recommended you have also passed blocks 1-3 of year 2, to avoid falling behind.
• Language: You meet the language requirements of both the ESSB and your partner university.
• Approval: The ESSB Examination Board has approved your exchange and your planned courses.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You apply after your exchange, not before. Fill in the ESSB Study Mobility Grant application form, add the required documents and send everything by email. The deadline is 31 March. You get the payment once your application is approved.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly: only full-time ESSB Bachelor's students going on a non-EEA exchange in their third year qualify, so the eligible group is small. If you fit those conditions and have your Examination Board approval in place, meeting the requirements is straightforward. The 500 EUR is a modest top-up, so treat it as a bonus alongside your other exchange funding, not the main source.
