Canton of Fribourg - Canton of Fribourg Student Support Grants

Benefit

You will receive a cash grant based on your family's income, which is granted for 12 months to cover your study and living costs. You do not have to repay this amount as long as your studies are progressing as normal. The amount is calculated on an individual basis and is approximately 1000 euros as a guide. The Fribourg Canton’s Training Grant Service (SSF) calculates this amount by comparing your financial circumstances and those of your parents with your education costs. You must submit a new application every year that you still require support.

Eligibility

• Connection to Fribourg: Your parents live in the Canton of Fribourg, or you have a strong personal link to the canton (origin, residence or asylum assignment).
• Nationality: Swiss nationals and foreign nationals are eligible to apply. Foreign nationals must hold a Category C or B residence permit or have been granted asylum and assigned to the canton of Fribourg.
• Training: You are enrolled in a recognised programme. This can be vocational preparation or transitional courses after compulsory school, upper secondary education leading to a federal or cantonal certificate (such as the CFC or the federal maturité), or tertiary study (Bachelor or Master).
• Study format: Your degree programme is a full-time course lasting at least 6 months, or a part-time course comprising at least 600 teaching hours or 20 ECTS credits.
• Field of study: Any field.
• Financial need: Your own financial resources and those of your parents are not sufficient to cover the costs of your education.

How to apply

Please complete the official SSF form and post it along with your supporting documents. For the academic year 2026/2027, the main deadline is 28 February 2027. If you apply after this date, only one semester can be taken into account. The final deadline is 10 May 2027.
