About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off grant of 20,000 to 50,000 DKK (about 2,700 to 6,700 EUR) for your research project. The funds may be used to cover running costs, equipment, staff salaries, as well as research-related travel or stays abroad. The grant comes from the ‘Legat for Lægevidenskabelig Grundforskning’ established by Ms Astrid Thaysen, a Danish foundation that supports basic medical research. The Foundation’s Board gives priority to cancer research, particularly in the field of breast cancer. In total, the Foundation awards around 200,000 DKK (approximately 26,800 EUR) annually. Please note: Travel or stays that took place before your grant was approved will not be taken into account.
Eligibility
- What you research: You are involved in basic medical research. Projects relating to cancer, particularly breast cancer, are preferred but are not a prerequisite.
- Qualification: You are a researcher, not a student, and you are expected to hold a PhD.
- Where you research: You are conducting research in Denmark. Any institution is a possibility.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Age: Preference is given to researchers up to the age of 40, although this is not a strict requirement.
How to apply
First, request the application form from the Executive Board. Then send your application by post to the Foundation’s office in Copenhagen. Please enclose a covering letter, a CV, a brief project description and a list of publications. As deadlines may vary, please check with the secretariat for the current deadline before submitting your application. The Board awards grants once a year at a meeting held towards the end of the year.
