CIHEAM - Scholarships to Candidates for a Master of Science Programme

CIHEAM Zaragoza Master of Science scholarship

You will be offered a place on a two-year Master of Science programme. The scholarship covers your tuition fees, a monthly allowance and health and accident insurance. If you come from a country that is not a CIHEAM member state, you may also be eligible for a travel allowance. The funding is provided by CIHEAM Zaragoza, an international institute for agricultural and food sciences in Spain. It funds full-time Master’s programmes in areas such as sustainable water management, marine aquaculture, animal breeding, plant genetics, animal nutrition, olive cultivation, agricultural and food marketing, and sustainable fisheries.

The programme comprises 120 ECTS credits and runs over two years. You will spend one year attending lectures and seminars, followed by around ten months devoted to research and writing your Master’s thesis. On completion, you will be awarded the CIHEAM Master of Science. In Spain, this qualification is recognised as equivalent to an official Spanish Master’s degree.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of a CIHEAM member country: Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia or Turkey.
• Degree: You hold a university degree that entitles you to enrol on a postgraduate programme (equivalent to 240 ECTS). You may also apply if you are in your final year of study.
• Field of study: You are applying for one of the degree programmes offered by CIHEAM Zaragoza in the fields of agriculture, food, aquaculture, fisheries or a related discipline.
• Language: Depending on your Master’s programme, you will need to have Spanish at level B1 and/or English at level A2. If you do not speak Spanish, you must take a compulsory intensive online Spanish course from July to September.
• Grades: Selection is based on academic performance. To progress to the second year, you must achieve an average mark of at least 70 out of 100 in the first part.

How to apply

Apply online via the CIHEAM Zaragoza admissions portal and apply for the scholarship as part of the same application. The application deadline is 4 May of the year in which your Master’s programme begins. The selection committee will inform you approximately one month after the deadline whether you have been admitted and whether a scholarship has been awarded.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship is linked to specific Master’s programmes in the fields of agriculture and food, meaning that only applicants from these disciplines are eligible to apply. You must also be a national of one of the 13 CIHEAM member countries, which limits the pool of applicants. If you fit this profile and have very good grades, your chances are good. Selection is based on academic merit, so strong grades and a clear alignment with your chosen degree programme are the most important factors.
