University of Glasgow / GIC Degree Progression Scholarship

You get a tuition fee discount of about 5,800 EUR (£5,000) per year for up to three years, which lowers the cost of your undergraduate degree at the University of Glasgow. The discount stays in place even if you spend a semester abroad. It counts only as a fee reduction, so there is no cash payout. The University of Glasgow offers 20 of these scholarships for the 2026/27 academic year.

Who can apply

• Where you come from: Any nationality except the United Kingdom. You must count as an international student for tuition fee purposes.
• Your path: You move straight from the Glasgow International College (GIC) to the University of Glasgow. GIC runs a Foundation Certificate, a one-year course that prepares international students for a Glasgow degree.
• Degree: You enrol on a full-time undergraduate programme that GIC feeds into. This covers many subjects, including engineering, sciences, computing, business, economics, politics, history and languages.
• Who pays: You fund your studies yourself. If you are fully or partly sponsored, you cannot apply.
• Grades: You are picked on academic merit, based on your GIC Foundation Certificate results.
• Staying funded: You must pass each year. If you repeat a year, you lose the scholarship.
• Other awards: You cannot combine this with any other University of Glasgow scholarship.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. If you progress from GIC to an eligible undergraduate programme, you are assessed automatically on your Foundation Certificate results. Winners are notified by the end of August. Deferring your entry to a later year cancels the award.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is narrow: you must move directly from GIC and be a self-funded international student, so only a small group competes for the 20 places. If you are on that pathway and score well in your Foundation Certificate, your prospects are solid. The selection is purely on merit and needs no extra application.
