About this scholarship

What the French Government scholarship gives you

You get your tuition paid at a public French university plus a monthly living allowance while you study in France. The award comes in three tracks, funded jointly by the French Embassy and the Institut français de Serbie:

  • Master 2 (all subjects): Tuition covered, 860 EUR per month for up to 10 months, and social insurance. Master 2 is the second and final year of a French master's, the fifth year of university study.
  • Cotutelle doctorate: Tuition and living costs in France plus social insurance, spread over 3 years alternating between Serbia and France. You spend up to 6 months per year in France, so up to 18 months of funding. A cotutelle means you enrol at both a Serbian and a French university under two supervisors.
  • ENSBA art scholarship: A 4-month term (1 October to 31 January) at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. It covers enrolment fees, social insurance, living costs in Paris and a grant for art materials.

Selected students hold the status of "Boursier du Gouvernement français", which brings extras such as housing support.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Serbian national.
  • Where you study: You plan to study in France, or in Paris for the art track.
  • Level, Master 2: You will finish your 4th or 5th year of study by end of June 2026 and are under 30.
  • Level, doctorate: You will finish your 5th year by June 2026, are under 35, and already have both a French and a Serbian thesis supervisor lined up.
  • Level, ENSBA: You are enrolled at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Arts in Belgrade, in the 3rd year of your bachelor's or in a master's. You speak French at a middling level (classes run during the stay).
  • Field of study: All fields are eligible for the Master 2 and doctorate. Priority goes to biotech and health; new technologies, AI, computing and industrial engineering; environment, agriculture and nutrition; and humanities and social sciences.
  • Language: For Master 2 and the doctorate you can study in French or English, so French is welcome but not required.

How to apply

First choose your programme in France and contact the university. Then send your full application to the Institut français de Serbie in Belgrade by 30 March 2026. Confirm the doctorate deadline directly with the institute. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a jury interview in April or May, and results are announced in early June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly to Serbian students heading to France, so the pool is smaller than for open international scholarships. Each track also has its own extra conditions. If you clearly fit one track, work in a priority field, and bring a strong academic record with a well-argued study project, your prospects are solid. Contacting your chosen French university early counts in your favour.
