Changemaker Scholarship at Maastricht University

You get your tuition fee of 2,694 EUR paid for, plus free housing at The Social Hub Maastricht for the period stated in your award letter. You also join a development programme of about 40 hours over the year: workshops, a personal mentor (someone who advises and guides you), peer learning focused on making change, and networking events at all Social Hub locations. After you finish, you become part of the TSH Changemaker community. Maastricht University, the University Fund Limburg and the TSH Talent Foundation run the scholarship together and fund 5 students in total.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You apply for one of the participating master's programmes at Maastricht University for the 2026-2027 academic year.
• Nationality: You hold citizenship of an EU or EEA country.
• Changemaker: You have made, or are trying to make, a difference (big or small) for your community.
• Background: You have limited access to financial, educational, social or health resources, or you belong to another minority. Examples the university names: you have no other way to fund your studies, you are the first in your family to study, you are neurodivergent, you are part of the LGBTQI+ community, or you have a physical disability.

How to apply

First apply for admission to a participating master's programme. Then submit a separate scholarship application with a CV (max 2 pages), a motivation letter (max 1 page) and one reference letter, all in English. You can submit only once and cannot change your documents afterwards. The faculty reviews the applications, invites selected candidates to an interview, and tells everyone the result at the end of July 2026. The next round opens on 1 February 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

Only 5 places are on offer, and the scholarship targets a specific group: EU/EEA students who both drive change in their community and face real disadvantage. That makes the eligible pool narrower than for open scholarships. If you clearly fit these criteria and can show them in your motivation and reference letters, your prospects are solid. A convincing, well-evidenced story of the barriers you have faced matters more here than polished grades.
