What the LEGITS scholarship gives you

You get full coverage of your tuition fee for an English-taught master's at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. For EU/EEA students this covers the statutory tuition fee; for non-EU/EEA students it covers the higher institutional fee. The award pays for your first year. It can be extended to the second year of a two-year master's if your grades stay good. The Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance gives out about 4 of these scholarships each year.

Who can apply

• Programme: You have an admission offer (conditional or unconditional) for an English-taught master's at Utrecht University's School of Law or School of Economics, starting 1 September 2027.
• First master's: This is your first master's degree in the Netherlands.
• Prior education: You finished secondary school and your Bachelor's degree outside the Netherlands.
• Nationality: Open to both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA students.
• Selection basis: You have strong grades and fit the programme. You also show a track record of community involvement and initiative in your personal statement.

How to apply

First apply for admission to an eligible master's through the university's online application system. Then open the linked LEGITS application from your dashboard and submit the LEGITS personal statement, a short essay about you and your motivation. Both the programme application and the scholarship application must be in by 1 February, 23:59 CET. The portal opens on 1 November. You get the result by email around mid-April.

How realistic are your chances?

With only about 4 scholarships each year and a large pool of international applicants to Law and Economics master's, this is competitive. Good grades open the door, but the personal statement about your community involvement and initiative is what sets candidates apart. A clear, well-evidenced record beyond good marks gives a well-matched applicant a real shot.
