China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarship at Maastricht University

You get a full scholarship for the one-year MSc in Public Policy and Human Development (MPP) in Maastricht, the Netherlands. It covers your full tuition fee (16,600 EUR for the year), a monthly living allowance, health insurance for up to one academic year, and a return flight between China and the Netherlands. The MPP is a joint programme of the United Nations University (UNU) and Maastricht University (UM), so you graduate with two diplomas. The award runs for 12 months, the length of the master's. For 2026/27, 20 full scholarships are offered. It is funded by the China Scholarship Council together with the two universities.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a citizen of the People's Republic of China and can get an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
• Age: You are under 28 when you apply.
• Degree and experience: You hold a bachelor's degree plus at least 6 months of work or internship experience in an international organisation; or you are in the final year of a master's; or you already hold a master's.
• Admission: You have been admitted to the MSc in Public Policy and Human Development. Applying to the master's costs a 100 EUR handling fee, which you get back once you start your studies.

How to apply

First apply to the MPP master's programme by 22 March 2026 and pay the 100 EUR handling fee. You hear whether you are admitted by 30 March 2026. If admitted, apply separately to the CSC at csc.edu.cn by 10 April 2026. The CSC informs successful applicants from 1 June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award targets a narrow group: only Chinese citizens under 28 admitted to this one master's can compete. With 20 full scholarships on offer, your prospects are reasonable if you clearly meet the age, degree and experience requirements. You must first win a place on the master's before the CSC step opens, so a strong admission profile is the real gatekeeper.
