What the Rachel and Alan Wyatt STS Scholarship covers

You get your tuition fees paid in full (2,694 EUR per year) plus a living allowance of 152 EUR per month for the length of your master's programme. The university's Scholarship Office pays the tuition directly, and you receive the living allowance monthly. Funding runs for 12 months for the one-year ESST master, and for 24 months for the two-year CAST research master. Sally Wyatt, a professor at Maastricht University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, set up the scholarship to help students with financial difficulties study Science and Technology Studies (STS).

Who can apply

• Programme: You apply for one of two full-time master's programmes at Maastricht University: ESST (European Studies on Society, Science and Technology, one year) or CAST (Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology, two years).
• Admission: You meet the entry requirements of that master's programme and have handed in a complete application for the 2026-2027 academic year.
• Nationality: You hold the nationality of an EU or EEA country.
• Financial need: You can show that you cannot pay for your studies on your own.
• One shot: You can apply only once and for one scholarship only.

How to apply

You apply in two steps. First, enrol in the master's programme through Studielink. Then submit a separate scholarship application form with a CV, a motivation letter written specifically for this scholarship, a reference letter, and a statement of your financial need. The deadline is 1 May 2026. Applications are currently closed and reopen on 1 February 2027. The faculty reviews the applications, a scholarship committee makes the final decision, and results go out by the end of July 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. It covers only two specific STS master's programmes at one university, and it is open only to EU/EEA students with proven financial need, so the eligible group is small. If you clearly fit those conditions and can document your need, your prospects are good. The committee weighs your motivation letter and reference, so write a letter aimed specifically at this scholarship, as generic ones are rejected.
