Benefit

You get a full scholarship for the one-year master's programme Globalisation and Law at Maastricht University, running for 13 months. It covers 20,150 EUR in living expenses (about 1,550 EUR per month for rent, food, transport, books and other basics), plus 700 EUR for health and liability insurance, your visa costs and a full tuition-fee waiver. Your two-week Pre-Academic Training and the first block of the International Student Ambassador Programme are also paid for. Maastricht University arranges a room for you until July 2028. The university awards one scholarship each academic year to support its work on human rights and the rule of law. Flights and a cleaning fee of around 75 EUR are not covered, and turning down the arranged room means losing the scholarship.

Eligibility

• Programme: You are applying for the full-time master's Globalisation and Law at Maastricht University for 2027-2028, and you meet its admission requirements.
• Nationality: You hold a nationality from outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland or Surinam, and no EU/EEA or Swiss nationality on top. You must be able to get a Dutch entry visa and residence permit.
• Your track record: You have already worked to strengthen human rights or the rule of law, for example through projects or initiatives during or outside your studies.
• Grades: Your bachelor's grade point average is at least 7.5 out of 10 (or 75% of the top mark).
• Age: You are 35 or younger on 1 September 2027.
• Degree so far: You do not yet hold a master's degree (such applicants are preferred, not required).
• Financial need: You can show that you need the support, for example due to financial hardship, single parenthood, a health condition, a disability or refugee status.

How to apply

First apply for admission to Globalisation and Law through Studielink by 10 December 2026. The scholarship form opens on 1 October 2026, and you submit it by 1 February 2027. The law faculty ranks the strongest candidates. Finalists are invited to an online interview, where you present a plan for how your studies would strengthen human rights or the rule of law in your home country.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded each year, and it is tied to a single master's programme, so the field is small but the competition for that one place is real. Strong grades are just the entry ticket. The deciding factor is a genuine, documented record of human rights or rule-of-law work. If that describes you and you can also show financial need, a well-prepared application with a clear action plan gives you a solid shot.
