University of Groningen Talent Grant: Partial Scholarship Law

You get about 1,000 EUR per month for up to 12 months, so up to roughly 12,000 EUR in total, towards a one-year LLM (a master's degree in law) at the University of Groningen. The money covers part of your study costs, not all of them. The university's Faculty of Law hands out around 4 to 8 of these grants each cycle. You can use it for one of seven English-taught LLM programmes: Energy and Climate Law, Global Criminal Law, International Commercial Law, Advanced European Union Law, Public International Law, Health and Technology Law, and Technology Law and Innovation.

Who can apply

• Admission: You are admitted, or conditionally admitted, to one of the seven LLM law programmes listed above.
• Nationality: You come from outside the core EU. Most non-EEA countries qualify (for example the USA, Canada, Australia, China, India), plus some European ones such as the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Malta and Lithuania. Germany, France and the Netherlands do not qualify.
• Money: You can pay part of your LLM costs yourself, but not all of them.
• No earlier Groningen LLM: You have not already started or finished an LLM at Groningen.
• Priority: Current Groningen bachelor students may apply, but applicants new to the university come first.

Fill in the application form on the Faculty of Law's LLM page and upload a motivation letter (a short text explaining why you want the grant). The deadline is 1 May.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is narrowly targeted. You must already be admitted to one of seven specific law programmes and come from an eligible non-core-EU country, so only a defined group can apply. With just 4 to 8 grants per cycle, competition within that group is still real. A strong motivation letter and being new to Groningen both help.
