What the KI-DIS Fellowship covers

You get your full tuition fees paid, up to 200,000 SEK per year (about 18,000 EUR), for both years of a two-year master's programme at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm. Tuition for KI's global master's programmes runs between 165,000 and 200,000 SEK per year, and the fellowship covers all of it. KI and the study-abroad organisation DIS Study Abroad fund it jointly, and they award one fellowship each year. It covers tuition only. You pay your own living costs, accommodation and travel, and Stockholm is expensive.

Who can apply

• DIS alumni only: You must have studied earlier on a DIS programme in Stockholm or Copenhagen. This is the key filter that sets this fellowship apart.
• You pay tuition fees: You are a fee-paying student, meaning a non-EU/EEA citizen. EU/EEA citizens study at KI for free and so cannot get this fellowship.
• Degree: You hold a bachelor's degree and meet the entry requirements of the master's programme you choose.
• Programme: You have applied to a KI global master's programme in health and life sciences and ranked KI as your first choice. Eligible fields include Biomedicine, Global Health, Public Health Sciences, Toxicology, Health Informatics, Nutrition Science and Bioentrepreneurship, among others.
• Not eligible: The joint programmes Molecular Techniques in Life Science and Biostatistics and Data Science do not qualify.

How to apply

First apply for a KI master's programme through universityadmissions.se and submit the KI CV form. Then submit a separate fellowship application directly to KI during the application period in February. For the 2027 start it runs 8 to 24 February 2027, with results at the end of April. Only admitted applicants are considered. Selection is based on merit from your CV form, with the final choice made together with DIS.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly and is highly competitive. Only DIS alumni who are fee-paying non-EU/EEA students qualify, yet just one fellowship goes out each year (26 applicants in 2026, 22 in 2025). If you fit the specific profile, your prospects rest on a strong academic record, since the winner is chosen on merit. A polished, well-documented CV form decides the outcome.
