Lund University Global Scholarship (LUGS)

You get a discount on your tuition fees at Lund University in Sweden. It covers 25%, 50%, 75% or, rarely, 100% of the fee. The exact share depends on the university's budget, not on your grades, and it is deducted automatically from your tuition bill. Lund University hands out about SEK 26 million (around EUR 2.3 million) in these scholarships each year. In 2026 it awarded 110 of them. LTH, the university's engineering faculty (Lunds Tekniska Högskola), manages its own share for its master's students. The scholarship does not cover living costs, so you still need to fund those yourself.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a citizen of a country outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, and you have to pay tuition fees to study in Sweden.
• Level: You are applying for a master's programme at Lund University. As an exception, a bachelor's in Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics or Physical Geography also counts.
• First choice: You list the Lund University programme as your first choice in your application at universityadmissions.se.
• Grades: The award is decided purely on merit. You have consistently high grades and a good fit for the programme.
• Living costs: You can prove you are able to pay your own living expenses, as the Swedish Migration Agency requires. Financial need does not affect the decision.

How to apply

First apply to a degree programme through universityadmissions.se and pay the SEK 900 application fee. The main round for autumn studies runs from mid-October to mid-January. Then submit a separate scholarship application in Lund's scholarship portal, which usually opens in early February (deadline 16 February 2026), and upload a motivation letter of up to 600 words. Selection runs alongside the admission process, and you hear back shortly after your admission result.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is open to high-achieving fee-paying students from across the globe, so the applicant pool is large and selection is strict. Your grades and a clear fit with your chosen programme decide it, not financial need. Your prospects improve if your academic record is genuinely strong, you make the Lund programme your first choice, and you submit a focused motivation letter.
