What the Lund University Hardship Scholarship gives you

You get help covering your remaining tuition fees at Lund University in Sweden. There is no fixed sum. The scholarship can pay part or all of the tuition you still owe, so you can finish your degree. The money goes straight onto your tuition bill. It is an emergency fund for students whose finances have collapsed unexpectedly during their studies, and it does not cover living costs.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are currently enrolled at Lund University.
• Who pays tuition: You pay tuition fees to Lund University. In practice this means international students from outside the EU/EEA, who are the ones charged fees.
• Progress: You have studied at normal pace and completed at least 50% of a Master's programme or at least 30% of a Bachelor's programme.
• How close to finishing: The fund is mainly for students with only one semester left. If you have more than one semester to go, you can get it in exceptional cases to buy time to arrange funding, but that is not a promise of further support.
• Financial need: You are in severe financial hardship caused by sudden, unexpected events. If you simply failed to plan your finances, the fund cannot help you.
• No overlap: You do not already hold a Swedish Institute Scholarship.

You apply by contacting the coordinator for your study programme. There is no online portal and no fixed public deadline, so reach out as soon as your situation changes.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a narrow emergency fund, not an open scholarship. You must already be a fee-paying Lund student, well into your programme, and able to show a sudden, unexpected financial crisis. If you clearly fit those conditions, especially with just one semester left, and can document what went wrong, your case is strong. Because it is meant for genuine emergencies, an honest, well-evidenced account of your situation matters most.
