The IPOET Scholarships at Chalmers

For the full 2-year Master’s programme (120 credits) at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, you will receive a 75% cut on your tuition fee. If you complete your first year at the standard pace with a good weighted average mark, the minimum mark required for the second year increases to 85%. Chalmers awards approximately 35 of these scholarships in each admissions round; they are funded by the Swedish Higher Education Authority. Please note that you will not receive any money directly and living costs are not covered. The scholarship merely reduces the tuition fees that you would otherwise have to pay as a non-EU student.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. People with this nationality are eligible to apply.
• Fee-paying status: As you are from a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, you will have to pay tuition fees to study in Sweden. This scholarship reduces these fees.
• Degree level: You are applying for admission to a Master’s programme at Chalmers University of Technology. If you are already enrolled, you cannot apply.
• Field of study: Every master’s programme at Chalmers is eligible for funding.
• Grades: Your weighted average mark must be at least 80%. Selection is based solely on academic merit, although the reputation of your previous university also plays a part.
• Financial need: Your financial situation does not factor into the decision.

How to apply

First, submit your application for the Master’s programme at universityadmissions.se, where you will be given a 8-digit application number. You must then apply for the scholarship by 15 January, apply separately for the scholarship via the Chalmers scholarship portal, quoting this number. Indicate a Master’s programme at Chalmers as your 1. choice, as this will improve your chances. Notifications will be sent out between mid-March and the end of April.

How realistic are your chances?

With around 35 places per intake and no means-testing, your success depends entirely on how your grades compare with those of other applicants. Convincing, well-documented academic achievements are crucial. Chalmers takes into account both your average mark and the reputation of your home university, meaning that applicants from top-ranked universities with top marks have the best prospects. Listing a Chalmers degree programme as your first choice is a concrete step that will help in this regard.
