What the Clark (Mile-End) Bursary Fund gives you

You will receive a grant of one-off grant of about 590 to 1,750 EUR (£500 to £1,500) for postgraduate study. The fund awards a maximum of 10 grants each year, which are paid out in November. The fund is a Scottish charity founded in 1868 by John Clark, a yarn manufacturer from Paisley.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You already hold a bachelor’s degree with distinction and are currently undertaking postgraduate studies or applying to do so.
• The Glasgow or Strathclyde link: Either you have obtained your first degree from the University of Glasgow or the University of Strathclyde and are undertaking postgraduate study at any higher education institution in the United Kingdom or abroad; or you have obtained your first degree from another university and are undertaking your postgraduate studies at the University of Glasgow or the University of Strathclyde.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Open to applicants from all countries.
• Residence for payment: You must be living in the UK in November, when the grant is paid out.
• More than grades: You need to have achieved good academic results, but you must also demonstrate a genuine commitment to activities outside your studies.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Fund’s official Google form by 1 September 2026. Applications sent by email or post will not be accepted. The members of the Board of Trustees will make their decision based on your academic achievements, your extracurricular activities and your professional potential. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Glasgow for an interview at the end of October, and all applicants will receive a response in early November.

How realistic are your chances?

The fund receives around 300 applications each year and awards a maximum of 10 scholarships, so competition is extremely fierce. Good grades alone are not the deciding factor. The members of the Board of Trustees place great emphasis on your extracurricular activities and your professional potential; therefore, a clear description of your activities outside your studies is what sets applicants apart from the rest. Having a connection to Glasgow or Strathclyde narrows down the pool of applicants, which is an advantage if you are a clear fit.
