ITQB NOVA PhD Thesis Prize

You will receive a one-off prize of 1,000 EUR for the best doctoral thesis completed at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica NOVA (ITQB NOVA), an institution of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in Portugal. The funds are provided by the Fundação Jacqueline Dias de Sousa. This is an award in recognition of a completed PhD, not a monthly scholarship. It is awarded once a year.

Who can apply

• Degree: You have completed your PhD or are about to do so, and you carried out most of the research for your thesis at ITQB NOVA.
• Where you studied: You are enrolled on a PhD programme at ITQB NOVA, for example in the departments of Molecular Biosciences, Plant Sciences or Sustainable Chemistry. You are also eligible to apply if you studied at another institution but carried out your research at ITQB NOVA.
• Field of study: Your field of research lies within the life sciences or chemistry and is therefore in line with the topics covered by the ITQB-NOVA doctoral programmes.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

There is no open application process. The winner is selected internally from among the doctoral theses defended at ITQB NOVA. A jury comprising three experienced researchers determines the winner: one member of ITQB NOVA, who chairs the jury, and two external members. In doing so, the jury also takes into account the reports from the external examiners on each doctoral thesis.
