About this scholarship

Lourinhã municipal higher education scholarship

You will receive an annual payment of 500 to 1,250 EUR, which is paid as a one-off sum by bank transfer rather than in monthly instalments. The amount depends on your household’s per capita income: 1,250 EUR for the lowest income bracket, 1,000 EUR for the middle income bracket and 500 EUR for the highest income bracket still eligible. The grant is valid for one academic year. You can renew it each subsequent year until you complete your studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. It is paid by the Lourinhã Municipal Council (Câmara Municipal da Lourinhã) to help local students who are unable to cover the costs of their studies.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: Your tax residence (domicílio fiscal, the address registered with the tax office) must be in the municipality of Lourinhã at the time of application.
  • Study level: You are enrolled at a recognised higher education institution on a short vocational course (curso técnico superior profissional), a bachelor’s degree programme (licenciatura) or an integrated master’s degree programme (mestrado integrado).
  • No higher qualification yet: You do not yet hold a qualification at the level you are currently working towards, or a higher qualification.
  • Financial need: Your household income per person is no more than 40% of the national minimum wage.
  • Academic progress: From your second year on, you must have passed the previous year. A first failure is accepted but cuts the grant by 25%.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: Any nationality, provided you are resident for tax purposes in Lourinhã.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online via the SIGA platform in October. For the year 2026/2027, the application window runs from 1 to 31 October. The local authority draws up a ranking list of applicants based on the lowest per capita income; in the event of a tie, the higher average mark takes precedence. There is no interview.
