University College London - UCL UPC Progression Scholarships

What you get

For each year of your Bachelor’s degree at University College London (UCL), you will receive about 5,800 EUR (5,000 GBP) per year off your tuition fees. For a typical three-year degree programme, the total amount is around 17,400 EUR. UCL awards two of these scholarships each year, funded from its own resources. The amount is deducted directly from your tuition fee invoice and is not paid out to you in cash. To retain the scholarship for the following year, you must maintain your grades at the ‘Upper Second-Class Honours’ level (a 2:1, the second-highest UK degree classification) or higher.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on one of UCL’s ‘Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate’ (UPC) courses, the one-year preparatory year for either the natural sciences and engineering (UPCSE) or the humanities and social sciences (UPCH).
• Next step: You have been offered a place to start a bachelor’s degree at UCL following your UPC year.
• Field of study: Any full-time bachelor’s degree programme at UCL.
• Nationality and fees: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, regardless of their fee status.
• Grades: Only your academic achievements count. The two awards are presented to the top student on each degree programme – one for the UPCSE and one for the UPCH.
• Financial need: Your financial situation doesn’t matter.

How to apply

No separate application is required. Any UPC student who has been offered a place on a Bachelor’s degree programme at UCL will automatically be considered. UCL will make its decision over the summer and will notify the selected students around the end of August or in September.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one student per degree programme wins, so this is an award for the top student in the class, which is awarded solely on the basis of marks. You cannot influence the result by submitting a strong application, as there isn’t one. Your chances depend entirely on whether you achieve the best results in your UPCSE or UPCH group. If you’re already at the top or close to it, you should aim to stay there.
