Benefit

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers a range of scholarship programmes for people from Austria who wish to study, conduct research or teach in Germany. The programmes vary in scope, but the main programme for Master’s students provides 992 EUR per month for 10 to 24 months, as well as health, accident and third-party liability insurance, a flat-rate travel allowance and an annual scholarship of 460 EUR. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers can apply for research stays lasting from 2 to 12 months. University lecturers in the humanities and architecture can apply for short working visits.

Eligibility

• Nationality / residence: You are an Austrian national or are of Austrian origin.
• Destination: You will be studying or conducting research at a state or state-recognised higher education institution in Germany.
• Degree level: To be eligible for a Master’s scholarship, you must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree. To be eligible for a research scholarship, you must be a PhD student or have already obtained a PhD. To be eligible for a visiting lecturer scholarship, you must be currently employed as a university lecturer.
• Subject: All academic disciplines are eligible. There are separate sections for architecture, fine art, design, film, performing arts and music.
• Grades: Applicants must have an outstanding academic record and a compelling study or research proposal. Scholarship recipients are selected by an independent academic committee.

Apply online at my.daad.de; each funding area has its own entry in the DAAD scholarship database. The application deadlines depend on the relevant funding area: 1 October 2026, 1 December 2026 or 23 February 2027.
