About this scholarship

What you get

This is non-cash support, not a monthly grant. You get free registration to the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC), the world's largest conference for women and non-binary technologists, run by AnitaB.org. You also get year-round career and academic workshops, mentoring (guidance from an experienced person in your field), networking events and membership of the AnitaB.org community. For the global GHC the registration is virtual. For the India edition (GHCI) it is in-person and includes one year of AnitaB.org India membership. In return, you attend the required events before and after GHC, join at least 3 conference sessions and complete the follow-up surveys.

Who can apply

  • Who it is for: You are a woman or a non-binary person.
  • Study level: You are an undergraduate, master's or post-doctoral student enrolled in an accredited degree programme. Recent graduates also qualify if they can prove acceptance into another programme (such as an M.A., M.S. or PhD) before the conference starts.
  • Field of study: You study a technical computing subject, for example computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, human-computer interaction, maths, physics or management information systems.
  • Grades: You have a cumulative GPA (grade point average, a measure of your overall marks) of at least 2.5.
  • Age: You are at least 18 years old at the time of the conference.
  • Proof: You can show proof of your enrolment when you register.

How to apply

You apply through an online form and provide proof that you are enrolled. If you are selected, you confirm that you accept the scholarship by the set deadline. Applications run in yearly cycles tied to each conference. Between cycles the window is closed, so apply once it reopens.

How realistic are your chances?

This award gives conference access and programme support rather than cash, so it is less contested than scholarships that pay out money. The eligibility is fairly broad: all study phases and a wide range of tech subjects count. If you are a woman or non-binary student in a computing field with a GPA of at least 2.5, you clearly fit the profile, so your prospects are good. Apply as soon as the window opens, since places are limited per cycle.
