CA2M-La Casa Encendida - Grants for Artists in Residence

Artists in Residence (Artistas en Residencia)

You will receive 3,000 EUR for your project, as well as a residency programme (a period during which you can focus entirely on your work) of up to four weeks at La Casa Encendida or the Museo CA2M in Madrid, taking place in June and July. During your stay, you will be supported by a mentor who will help you to further develop your work. You will also have access to a workspace with basic technical facilities, intended for projects in the research phase. If you live outside the Community of Madrid, travel and accommodation costs of up to 600 EUR will be covered. The programme is run jointly by La Casa Encendida (Fundación Montemadrid) and the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M). Four projects are selected per round.

Who can apply

• Where you are from: You are an artist from Spain or Portugal.
• Solo or group: You can apply individually or as a group. The 3,000 EUR applies per project and does not vary depending on the size of the group.
• Field: You work in the field of the performing arts (artes vivas) at the intersection of dance, performance and theatre, with a focus on the body and the performing arts.
• Type of project: Preference is given to projects in which research takes precedence over production and which blur the boundaries between dance, performance and theatre.
• Language: You should submit your project in Spanish or English.
• Age: No age limit.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the La Casa Encendida website. Applications by email or post will not be accepted. The application period runs from 20 February to 20 March 2026. Projects will be selected first by a preliminary jury and then by a jury comprising curators and representatives of the participating institutions. The results will be announced on 28 April 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

In each round, only four projects are selected, and the thematic focus is clearly defined: live art at the intersection of dance, performance and theatre, with the call for proposals open exclusively to artists from Spain and Portugal. Whilst this does narrow the field, as it is a well-known open call for applications, what matters most is a strong, research-oriented project. The jury may even leave places unfilled if the standard is not high enough; therefore, a clear, well-documented application is crucial to success.
