About this scholarship

Benefit

You get a one-off grant to fund a research stay in France: 925 EUR for a two-week stay, or 1,850 EUR for a one-month stay. Each round awards 16 grants: 2 for the shorter stays and 14 for the one-month stays. The stays run in the second half of the year. The money comes from the French Embassy in Spain (Institut français). It covers only the trip and stay, not tuition or other living costs. Priority research areas include health, space, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, the circular economy, energy, climate, electronics, an ageing population, fighting disinformation, and humanities and social sciences linked to these topics.

Eligibility

  • Nationality: You have Spanish nationality.
  • Level: You are a PhD student, or you defended your doctoral thesis within the last 5 years (postdoc).
  • Where you study: You are enrolled or employed at a Spanish university or research centre, and not enrolled in France.
  • Invitation: You have an invitation letter from the French host institution stating the exact dates of your stay.
  • No double funding: You have no other grant (such as Erasmus or a French government scholarship) for the same stay period.

How to apply

You send all documents as a single PDF file by email to the Institut français. The 2026 round was open from 17 February to 9 March 2026. The call opens once a year, usually early in the year. Applications are judged on academic excellence, the quality of your research project in France, and its value for French-Spanish scientific cooperation.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is narrowly cut: you must be a Spanish PhD student or recent postdoc with an invitation from a French institution, which keeps the applicant pool small. Only 16 grants go out per round, so a strong, coherent project in one of the priority fields matters. If you fit the criteria and already have a firm French host lined up, your prospects are solid.
