About this scholarship
Mathematics scholarship at the University of Bologna
You will receive 5,000 EUR (before any fees are deducted) if you enrol as an international student on the Master’s programme in Mathematics, specialising in ‘Advanced Mathematics for Applications’, at the University of Bologna in Italy. The Department of Mathematics awards 2 scholarships per call for applications. You will receive the first half after you have enrolled and arrived in Bologna. You will receive the second half as soon as you have earned 24 credits (CFU) by 31 July of your first year of study. You may extend the scholarship for the second year if you re-enrol on the same programme and have earned at least 36 credits by 30 September of your first academic year.
Who can apply
- Degree level: You will begin the two-year Master’s degree programme (Laurea Magistrale) in Mathematics with the ‘Advanced Mathematics for Applications’ specialisation.
- Where you study: At the University of Bologna, Italy.
- Your first degree: You hold a qualifying degree from a university outside Italy.
- Admission: You have applied for the degree programme by the deadline and have received a positive decision (‘green status’) from the admissions committee.
- Age: You are under 30.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided that their first degree was obtained at a university outside Italy.
- No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship for the same purpose from the University of Bologna, ER.GO, MAECI, the Collegio Superiore di Bologna or CRUI.
How to apply
First apply for admission to the "Advanced Mathematics for Applications" programme and wait for a positive result. Then apply for the scholarship through the Studenti Online (SOL) platform. Choose the relevant call and upload the application form and a copy of your passport. Deadlines fall around the end of June and the end of July, at 6 p.m. (CET). The same committee that decides admission scores candidates out of 30 points on their academic record and CV. If two candidates tie, the youngest wins.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is narrow: only 2 scholarships go to international students entering one specific mathematics curriculum, so the eligible group is small. If you already have a positive admission result, are under 30 and have a strong academic record, your prospects are good, since selection rests mainly on that record. Applying and securing your admission result early gives you the clearest shot.
