Academic Excellence Scholarship (International) at Bournemouth University

During the first year of a Master’s programme at Bournemouth University in the UK, you will receive a reduction of approximately EUR 5,265 (GBP 4,500) on your tuition fees. This is a direct reduction in fees, meaning you will pay less to the university but will not receive any cash. There is no limit on the number of students who can receive this award: anyone who meets the eligibility criteria will receive it. Bournemouth University awards this scholarship to recognise the outstanding academic achievement of its international Master’s students.

Who can apply

• Level: You are applying for a Master’s degree programme. This may be a full-time programme, a part-time programme with a fixed timetable, or a Master of Research (MRes).
• On campus: The course must take place on campus. Online courses, distance-learning courses and self-study courses will not be recognised, nor will postgraduate diplomas.
• International student: You pay ‘international’ tuition fees. This means that you are an international student and are not from the UK, Ireland or the Channel Islands.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities may apply, provided they have ‘international tuition fees’ status.
• Field of study: All degree programmes are eligible for funding. Some vocational and diploma programmes offered by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences are excluded, but the MSc Public Health, MA Social Work, MSc Physician Associate Studies and MSc Nutrition & Behaviour programmes are eligible.
• Grades: You must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree with an upper second-class honours (2:1) or a first-class honours degree with distinction, or an equivalent qualification from your home country.
• How you pay: You are funding the course yourself, either in full or in part. Students whose costs are covered by a government body or an external sponsor are not eligible to apply.
• Other awards: You can combine this with a sports or music scholarship, but not with another academic scholarship.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. Your application will be assessed automatically when you apply for an eligible degree programme starting in January 2026, September 2026 or January 2027. You cannot defer the scholarship to a later start date.

How realistic are your chances?

Your chances are good if you meet the criteria. There is no limit to the number of scholarships available, and there is no competition for places. The decision is based on strict selection criteria: Your degree must be at least a 2:1 or a ‘First’; your programme must be an eligible on-campus Master’s programme; and you must be a self-funded international student. If you meet these criteria, you will automatically receive the scholarship.
