Dow Memorial Trust Scholarship - Medicine

Benefit

You get a yearly grant that rises as you progress through your Medicine MBChB degree at the University of Dundee. It is about EUR 2,300 per year for years 1 to 3 (£2,000), about EUR 2,900 in year 4 (£2,500), and about EUR 3,100 in year 5 (£2,700, including extra money for your GMC registration fee). Over the whole degree you can receive up to about EUR 12,700 (£11,000). The money is paid in equal instalments each semester. It is renewed each year, as long as your academic record stays satisfactory. The scholarship comes from the Dow Memorial Trust, which supports Medicine and Dentistry students who face financial barriers.

Eligibility

• Degree: You study, or have an offer to study, the undergraduate Medicine MBChB course. Students on Gateway to Medicine or the ScotGEM Graduate Entry programme cannot apply.
• Where you study: You study full time at the University of Dundee in Scotland.
• Timing: You must start the scholarship in your first year (September 2026 intake). If you defer to a later year, you lose it.
• Financial need: You can show that you need financial support. This is the central requirement.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, and any fee status. This covers students from Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and many other countries.

How to apply

The University's Admissions team checks whether you are eligible when you receive your offer. If you qualify, they send you instructions on how to complete the application. The closing date for the September 2026 intake is 9 March 2026. This is a guide date and can change, so check with the School of Medicine.

How realistic are your chances?

This award goes only to Medicine students at one university who can show genuine financial need, so the eligible group is much smaller than for open scholarships. Selection looks at you as a whole person, weighing financial need alongside your volunteering, achievements and personal challenges. If you clearly meet the criteria and can document your need, your prospects are solid.
