Hanze Scholarship

You will receive 10,000 EUR per academic year, paid in monthly instalments of 1,000 EUR. The money is intended to cover your living costs whilst you are studying for your Master’s degree at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, the Netherlands. You cannot use it to reduce your tuition fees, but a scholarship award letter may reduce the total amount you need to prove for your visa application. The funding covers the standard duration of your degree programme. For a 1.5- or 2-year degree programme, you can apply for the second year if you have earned at least 30 ECTS credits in the first year and re-enrol. The second year costs 10,000 EUR for Art, Music and Data Science for Life Sciences, or 5,000 EUR for an additional semester on the Energy, Engineering, Communication and Economics programmes.

Who can apply

• Degree level: In September 2026, you will begin a full-time Master’s degree programme at Hanze University, taught in English.
• Eligible programmes: Your degree programme is one of the following: Fine Art and Design, Music, Data Science for the Life Sciences, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Smart Systems Engineering, International Communication or International Business and Management.
• Nationality: You are a national of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
• Admission: You must already have been admitted to your Master’s programme before applying for the scholarship.
• Commitment: You take an active part in your studies and your projects.

How to apply

First, apply for admission to your Master’s programme. Once you have been admitted, you will receive an invitation from the admissions officer, along with a link to the scholarship application form. You must submit this between 1 March and 30 April 2026. You will be notified of the result by 10 June 2026 at the latest.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship is restricted to students from non-EEA countries who are enrolled on one of the Master’s programmes listed in a fixed list; the target group is therefore relatively small. You must already have been admitted before you can apply. If you clearly fall into one of the listed programmes and meet its requirements, your chances are good. Places are limited, so apply as soon as the application period opens.
