About this scholarship

Benefit

For attending a conference or meeting in the field of neuroscience abroad, you will receive one-off travel grant. The amount depends on the event in question. For smaller regional meetings, the amounts are usually between 300 and 700 USD (approximately 280 to 650 EUR). Major international congresses such as the IBRO World Congress, the FENS Forum or the SfN Annual Meeting pay up to 2,500 USD (approximately 2,300 EUR). The grant is paid as a one-off sum per event, not as a monthly salary. It is provided by the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO), which awards these grants in collaboration with the societies organising the conferences to facilitate young researchers’ access to the global neuroscience community.

Eligibility

  • Field: You work in the neurosciences or a related field, such as neurology or brain biology.
  • Career stage: You are an early-career researcher. Breaks for parental leave, caring duties or military service count in your favour when your career stage is assessed.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. For scholarships restricted to a specific region, your current place of residence is the deciding factor, not your passport.
  • Where you live: You cannot apply if you live in or come from North Korea, Venezuela or Crimea. If you live in Iran, Cuba or Belarus, payment needs a US Treasury (OFAC) licence, which can take over 12 months.
  • Account: For most travel grants, you do not need to be an IBRO member, but you do need a free account on the IBRO grants portal.
  • Region: Some funding schemes are only available to people living in a specific region, such as Africa, the Asia-Pacific region or Latin America.

How to apply

Create a free account on the IBRO funding portal and apply online for the call for proposals for the conference you wish to attend. Each event has its own application deadline. For some funding applications, you will need to submit an abstract. Applications are reviewed by members of the IBRO Regional Committees, and you will usually receive a response within around six weeks of the application deadline.
