What you get

You will receive up to 2,500 EUR per year for your engineering degree at INSA Lyon in France. INSA Lyon also offers a discount on the higher tuition fees normally charged to international students. The money is not paid out in cash. It is deducted from your rent and living costs, so you must live in an INSA student hall of residence on campus. The grant is valid for up to 3 years, provided you pass each year and progress to the next academic year. In the first year, this may instead take the form of a one-off settlement allowance to help you settle in. This is not repeated in subsequent years. INSA Lyon provides this support to international students who are unable to cover the costs of studying abroad.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at INSA Lyon, an engineering university in Villeurbanne near Lyon, France, on one of its international degree programmes, such as EURINSA (focusing on Europe) or ASINSA (focusing on Asia).
• Field of study: Engineering.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are international students.
• Financial need: You can prove that you are unable to cover the costs of your studies from your own resources.
• No other grant: You are not eligible for the French state study grant (CROUS). Nor do you receive any other state or private grant, either from France or from abroad.
• Where you live: You live in an INSA Lyon student hall of residence on campus.
• Study stage: You are a first-year student at INSA in the year 1, 3 or 4 (double degree), or you are re-enrolling in the 2 or 3 year of your engineering degree.

How to apply

No separate application is required prior to admission. Once you are enrolled on an international degree programme, you should apply for the scholarship through the Scholarships Office, which will send you the form. You should complete the form and enclose evidence of your financial circumstances. The Office will then make a decision based on your personal circumstances.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very restrictive. You must already be enrolled at INSA Lyon on an international degree programme, be living on campus and demonstrate a genuine financial need, whilst not receiving any other financial support. This means that the number of people eligible for the grant is small. If you clearly meet these conditions and can demonstrate your financial need, your chances are good. Please note that the grant covers only part of your living and study costs, not your entire budget.
