University of Manchester - Full-time campus-based master’s scholarships – Uganda

What the scholarship covers

You will receive a fully funded one-year master's degree at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. The scholarship covers your full tuition fees, your return flights for travel to and from Manchester, your living costs whilst studying, and your visa costs. Each year, 20 full-time places are offered on campus, shared amongst students from six African countries.

Who can apply

• Where you're from: You are a citizen of Uganda and live there.
• Your degree: You already hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised higher education institution with the required grade, awarded before the programme’s deadline.
• Work experience: You must have at least two years’ paid professional experience in your chosen field. Unpaid work placements and voluntary work do not count towards this requirement.
• Field of study: You are applying for one of the eligible Master’s programmes in the fields of engineering, the environment, health sciences, global development, education or law.
• No study outside Africa: You have not yet studied outside Africa. Short study visits of up to six months do not count towards this.
• Return plan: You undertake to return to Uganda and are able to explain how the completion of your professional career will benefit your community.
• Financial need: You are unable to fund your studies abroad yourself and require this funding in order to take part.
• Women: Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

How realistic are your chances?

There are only 20 full-time places available for applicants from six countries, so competition is fierce. However, the selection criteria significantly narrow down the pool of applicants. You need two years’ relevant professional experience, must commit to returning to your home country, and must not have previously studied outside Africa. If you clearly meet all these requirements and can demonstrate genuine potential to make a difference in your home country, your chances are good. Women are expressly encouraged to apply.
