The Otto Koenigsberger Fund

You will receive up to about 5,900 EUR (GBP 5,000) as a grant towards your tuition fees for a one-year full-time Master’s programme at the Development Planning Unit (DPU) of University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom. This will cover only part of your fees. You must provide written evidence that you are able to cover the remainder of your tuition fees as well as your full living costs yourself. The fund was established in 1989 to enable students from developing countries to study urban development planning at the DPU. It is named after Otto Koenigsberger, the founder of the DPU.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are starting a full-time MSc (Master’s) degree at DPU, for example in the fields of urban development planning, civil engineering and urban design in development, or health in urban development.
• Offer: You have already been offered and accepted an unconditional place on a Master’s programme at DPU.
• Fee status: You are considered an international (overseas) student rather than a UK student. Applicants of all nationalities may apply, provided they have international student status.
• English: If English is not your first language, please ensure you meet the required IELTS or TOEFL standards.
• Own funding: You can prove that you have the necessary financial resources to cover the remaining fees and your living costs.

How to apply

Firstly, you must secure a place on a full-time Master’s programme at the DPU and accept the offer. You should then contact the DPU programme administrator to apply for the scholarship. In previous years, the application deadline for the relevant academic year was 28 February.

How realistic are your chances?

The number of scholarships available is very limited. You must already have secured a place at DPU, fund the majority of your studies yourself and be classified as an international student, meaning that very few people meet the eligibility criteria. If you clearly meet these conditions and apply early, your chances are good. This fund is no longer listed amongst DPU’s current scholarships; therefore, please make sure it still exists before counting on it.
