What you get

You will receive your full tuition paid for a bachelor’s degree programme abroad, as well as a monthly living allowance, from the day you commence your studies. You can study in the UK, the USA, Japan, France, Germany, China or another country; you should consult the EDB regarding your choice of university and country. You can also take part in subsidised summer schools and language courses, for example in Japanese, French, German or Bahasa Indonesia. Under certain conditions, the tuition fees for the Master’s programme may be covered. After graduating, you will join the EDB Associate Programme and rotate through various departments, whilst receiving training and mentoring (guidance from experienced staff). The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) is the government agency responsible for economic strategy. In return for the funding, you undertake to work for the EDB after graduation, usually for five or six years, depending on where and for how long you study.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Singaporean citizen or hold permanent resident status.
• If you have not started university (Full-Term): You are currently in the final stages of your school education (A-Levels, International Baccalaureate, a diploma from a university of applied sciences with a ‘Merit’ grade, or a high school leaving certificate), or you completed your secondary education up to two years ago and are about to start a Bachelor’s degree.
• If you are already at university (Mid-Term): You are enrolled, but you are not yet in your final year.
• Field of study: You are studying engineering, natural sciences, economics, mathematics or many other subjects. Law, medicine, dentistry and pharmacy are excluded.
• Motivation: You want to help shape Singapore’s economy and possess leadership qualities, strong communication skills and critical thinking.

How to apply

Apply via the EDB’s online portal and submit your marks and academic transcripts. The application deadline for the semester is 1 March. The application period for the full academic year begins in October 2026. The EDB reviews applications on an ongoing basis and will then invite you to a face-to-face interview.

How realistic are your chances?

Only Singaporean citizens and permanent residents may apply, which limits the pool of applicants. However, this is a prestigious government scholarship that attracts outstanding candidates. Academic results alone are not sufficient. The EDB is looking for genuine leadership qualities and a clear commitment to economic development. The multi-year employment commitment also means that you should be certain that you wish to pursue a career there. It is advisable to apply early, as interviews take place from December onwards.
