About this scholarship

Sir Jack Cater Scholarship

You will receive a reduction of fee waiver worth about 3,500 EUR (GBP 3,000) on your tuition fees for the first year of a full-time Master’s degree programme at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. A fee waiver means that the university will reduce the amount of tuition fees you are required to pay, so no cash payment is required. One scholarship is awarded per year. It applies exclusively to the academic year 2026/27 and cannot be deferred. The scholarship is awarded on behalf of the family of Sir Jack Cater and the Parthenon Trust.

Who can apply

  • Your first degree: You hold a degree from one of the three universities in Hong Kong listed below: the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) or Hong Kong Baptist University.
  • Your offer: You have already been offered a place on a full-time, on-campus Master’s programme at the University of Bath for 2026 and have accepted this offer in earnest. Both conditional and unconditional offers are accepted.
  • Field of study: All degree programmes are open to students, namely those offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Design, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the School of Management.
  • Other funding: You may combine this with other scholarships offered by the University of Bath, provided that the total amount does not exceed 10,000 GBP. External funding must not cover more than half of your tuition fees. If you receive a full scholarship, you are ineligible to apply.

How to apply

Firstly, you will need to have been offered a place on an eligible Master’s programme. You then apply via the University of Bath’s ‘Application Tracker’, where you will be asked to answer three questions. The application deadline is 8 April. An admissions panel will make its decision based on your academic achievements, your answers and your background.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very narrowly defined. Only graduates from three specific universities in Hong Kong who have already received and accepted a place on a Master’s programme at the University of Bath are eligible to apply, so the pool of applicants is small. However, as only one scholarship is awarded, competition within this group remains fierce. If you clearly meet these criteria and provide convincing answers to the questions on the application form, your chances are good.
