Geoffrey Ma Birmingham Hong Kong Masters Scholarship

You get a one-off £10,000 (about 11,600 EUR) off your tuition fees for a one-year master's degree at the University of Birmingham's UK campus in Edgbaston, starting in September or October 2026. The University of Birmingham Hong Kong Foundation funds the award. It honours Geoffrey Ma, a Birmingham law graduate and former Chief Justice of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal. Only a few of these awards are given out each year.

Who can apply

• Your course: You hold and have accepted an offer for a full-time, one-year taught master's at Birmingham's UK campus, taught on-campus rather than online. Business School programmes are not covered, and you must not already be enrolled at the University.
• Residence: You live in Hong Kong. Any nationality can apply, but you must be based in Hong Kong.
• Fee status: The University classes you as an overseas (international) fee payer.
• Grades: You have or expect at least a 2.1 in your bachelor's degree (a UK grade, roughly the upper second class), or the equivalent, and you meet the academic conditions of your offer.
• Own funds: You can pay the rest of your tuition, your living costs for a year, and any visa and travel costs from other sources.
• Application route: You apply through one of the local Hong Kong representatives (AAS Education, Aston Education, IDP Education, LinkedU or SI-UK Hong Kong), and through one of them only.
• Deposit: You pay the standard £3,000 (about 3,500 EUR) admissions deposit by the deadline in your offer letter.

How to apply

First accept your offer through the University's postgraduate portal. Then submit your scholarship application through a single local representative by 19 July 2026. Include a 150 to 200 word statement on why you chose Birmingham. Shortlisted candidates are invited to online or in-person interviews in Hong Kong in August 2026. Only successful applicants are contacted.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. You must live in Hong Kong, hold an offer for a specific type of Birmingham master's, and show you can fund the rest yourself, so the eligible group is small. If you clearly meet those conditions, have a strong 2.1 background and write a convincing statement, your prospects are decent. Only a few awards are given, so a sharp application matters.
