About this scholarship
UAM-Banco Santander Scholarships for Studies in Latin America
You will receive 900 EUR per month to cover accommodation and living costs whilst studying for one academic semester (4.5 months) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in Spain. In addition, you will receive 1,000 EUR travel grant, will not have to pay any tuition or administrative fees at the UAM, and will be provided with accident and travel insurance for the duration of your stay. The UAM and Banco Santander run the programme jointly to foster links between universities in Latin America and Madrid.
Who can apply
- Level of study: You are a student on a bachelor’s degree programme (Grado).
- Where you live: You’re from Argentina, Brazil, Chile or Mexico.
- Your university: You are studying at one of the partner universities in these countries, for example at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Universidade de São Paulo, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México or the Universidad de Chile.
- Nomination: Your home university must first nominate you. You cannot apply directly to the UAM.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
How to apply
First, apply through your own university. The university will shortlist candidates and put them forward to the UAM, which will make the final decision. You should then register via the Santander Open Academy platform. The final application deadline was 12 November, and the programme takes place in the second semester (January to May).
How realistic are your chances?
The selection process for this scholarship is very limited. You must be studying at a specific partner university in one of four countries, and your own university must nominate you. As a result, there are very few applicants for each place. In recent selection rounds, between 31 and 61 places were available. If your home university rates you highly, your chances are good.
