Carl Larsson Foundation scholarship

You will receive a one-off cash prize for outstanding artistic achievement. In recent years, this has amounted to approximately 48,000 SEK (around 4,200 EUR), which is paid as a lump sum. The Carl Larsson Foundation at the University of Gothenburg awards several prizes each year to students at its art colleges. A prize winner also receives the Grez Scholarship: a two-month stay at the Hôtel Chevillon guest house in Grez-sur-Loing, France, as well as an additional cash sum. The prizes recognise works that are assessed primarily on the basis of quality, independence and originality.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying at one of the University of Gothenburg’s faculties of the arts (Music, Opera, Theatre, Fine Art, Film, Photography, Design and Crafts) or at the Department of Architecture at Chalmers University of Technology.
• Field of study: You work in an artistic field: music, the performing arts, the visual arts, film, photography, design, crafts or architecture.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided they are studying at one of the participating schools.
• Age (Grez scholarship only): To stay in Grez, France, you must be under 30.
• Merit: Her artistic work is characterised by quality, independence and originality.

How to apply

You do not need to apply yourself. A grants committee set up by the foundation selects the scholarship recipients from among the pupils at eligible schools and puts them forward. The awards ceremony takes place once a year.

How realistic are your chances?

As there is no application process, you cannot put yourself forward. The committee selects scholarship recipients on the basis of the quality of their artistic work. It is best if you produce compelling, original work as part of your degree programme and make a name for yourself at your university, as this is what the committee bases its decision on. Eligibility is restricted to students at the art colleges in Gothenburg and the Faculty of Architecture at Chalmers University, which narrows down the pool of candidates; however, the decision rests solely at the discretion of the committee.
