What you get

You get a one-off award of 25,000 SEK (about 2,200 EUR) as a music student at the Royal College of Music (Kungliga Musikhögskolan, KMH) in Stockholm. Two of these awards go out each year, 50,000 SEK (about 4,400 EUR) in total. The money comes from Borgargåvan, a charitable association of the Stockholm Burghers (Stockholms borgerskap) founded in 1923 that supports young musicians. The awards are handed over in autumn at the association's yearly gathering in Stockholm City Hall.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm.
• Study phase: You are still studying or have recently finished, and you are not yet a fully trained musician.
• Field of study: Any musical direction at KMH counts.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you study at KMH.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. KMH's departments put forward candidates, and the college's rector picks the winners.

How realistic are your chances?

There is no open application, so it comes down to being noticed and nominated by your department. With only two awards a year for the whole college, the field is tight and the rector makes the call. Standing out in your studies and with your teachers is what puts you in the running.
