What you get

You get a one-off payment of 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR), normally paid at the end of November. It is a single grant, not a monthly amount, and you can receive it only once. The money comes from Kungl och Hvitfeldtska stiftelsen, a Swedish foundation that gives out around 10 million SEK a year in scholarships to students with roots in the Gothenburg region.

Who can apply

• Your old school: You finished upper secondary school (gymnasium) in the former Göteborgs och Bohus län region and hold the final certificate (slutbetyg). Name the school in your application.
• Where you are from: You were born in the Göteborg diocese (Göteborgs stift), or you lived there when you started upper secondary school within the diocese.
• Where you study now: You study at a state university or university college in Sweden, at the Stockholm School of Economics (Handelshögskolan i Stockholm) or at Chalmers University of Technology.
• Study progress: You have completed at least 60 higher education credits (about 60 ECTS, roughly one full year) of your first degree. All credits count, even if you switched courses or programmes.
• Financial need: You have limited means. In the application you state your expected income (not counting Swedish student aid, CSN), your assets and your debts.
• Academic promise: You show good prospects of succeeding in your studies.
• Field of study: Any subject is fine.

How to apply

You apply online through the form on the foundation's website. The application window runs each year from 15 August to 20 October. Only successful applicants are contacted.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a narrow group: you must have gone to school and been born or registered in the Gothenburg region, study in Sweden, have a year of credits behind you and show real financial need. That keeps the eligible group small. If you clearly meet all the criteria and can document your need, your prospects are good. For this kind of regional need-based grant, solid evidence of your situation matters more than a polished pitch.
