Qualcomm scholarship at Linköping University

You receive a one-off payment of 30,000 SEK (about 2,700 EUR) for your engineering studies at Linköping University (LiU) in Sweden. Past recipients used the money for study periods abroad, international conferences, IT equipment or their master's thesis project. The award comes from a fund set up by Qualcomm, an American semiconductor and telecoms company with over 400 staff at its Linköping site. Each year Qualcomm puts up around 300,000 SEK in total, shared across 5 to 10 scholarships. So far all three rounds (2024, 2025 and 2026) went to 10 students of 30,000 SEK each.

Who can apply

• University: You are currently enrolled full time at Linköping University.
• Programme: You study one of the selected five-year engineering (civilingenjör) programmes: computer engineering, information technology, media technology and AI, software engineering, applied physics and electrical engineering, or applied mathematics.
• Grades: You have outstanding academic results.
• Project: You have a clear project or plan the scholarship would help you pursue, such as a thesis, a conference trip or a study period abroad.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What matters is that you study one of the eligible LiU programmes.

How to apply

You apply through LiU's student portal, which you reach with your LiU login. A steering group of six people from Qualcomm and the university reviews the applications and decides who is awarded. The scholarships are handed out at a ceremony each January.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: you must study one specific set of engineering programmes at one university, so the eligible group is small. Even so, it is well known among those students, and in 2025 over 50 people applied for 10 places. What set the winners apart was a strong academic record plus a concrete, well-described project.
